My work has taken me all over the globe: from hot-air ballooning over the Sahara's Marrakech at sunrise to kitesurfing in Mauritius; an elephant-conservation safari down the Zambezi to a mountain yoga and mindfulness camp with Olympian Jenny Jones; a climb-ski of Mont Blanc's historic North Face to the Grande Circle, a 126-km wild ski tour across the Italian Dolomites, and so much more...
Previous roles include senior features writer and assisting deputy editor at REAL magazine (330,000 circulation, 1m+ readership), where I was awarded 'PTC New Journalist of the Year, 2005 (Weekly)' for 'sparkling, must-read' investigative reportage work and featured as a women's editor on BBC 4 Woman's Hour.
Others include breaking national exclusives on Closer's features desk - such as a real-life campaign on sunbed misuse causing U18 skin cancer, which was read out by an MP in the Houses of Parliament: The Sunbeds Regulation Act 2010, making sunbeds illegal for U18s, came into force on 8 April, 2011 - and acting features director at More!.
Adventure and the North Pole
In 2010, I was selected for a world-first expedition to the North Pole, raising awareness for climate change and the polar ice-cap melt, and as a member of the recce team for HRH Prince Harry's Walking With The Wounded, with polar explorers Inge Solheim and Henry Cookson. We reached the North Pole on April 10, 2010.
Interiors and travel
Now freelance, editing a travel guide (50k print run) and a new mum, I studied interior design at KLC School of Design (2013) while doing up our family home. Graduating with distinction, I joined the leading Notting Hill studio of British interiors tastemaker Suzy Hoodless before setting up the boutique West London design studio @studioLoulaHall
, combining interiors projects with editorial commissions (mostly family travel in school holidays).
A pivot to podcasting
In 2017, an editor asked me to cover on a ski press trip. It opened up the world of ski writing. In 2018, I was commissioned for a cover story to climb-ski the historic North Face of Mont Blanc - a dreamy challenge. In 2018/19, I travelled all over, from Ischgl to Heiligenblut, Sainte Foy to La Rosiere, Val D'Isere to Verbier, writing ski fitness columns, resort insiders, kit reports, interviews and features on everything from learning to ski race with Olympian Chemmy Alcott to just how World No.1 snow artist Simon Beck creates his epic works.
As lockdown came. I closed the interiors studio doors, and put away my passport, as new doors opened to pr and podcasting, co-hosting with travel experts Peter & Felice Hardy on ActionPackedTravel (80K listeners, 81 countries). I wonder what lies around the next corner.
